This can be very difficult, especially if you don’t know your neighbours very well. And even more so if you don’t know what is happening.

However if you hear something and feel the neighbour may be in danger you should call the police. In some cases what police are able to do can be limited, it depend on the situation.

5. If I know someone who is experiencing domestic violence can I tell Dawn’s New Horizon and if so what will they do?
If you feel upset by knowing someone is experiencing domestic violence and would like to talk to someone, then yes, you can talk to us.
We will listen to what you want to talk about, and give information if this is needed. We will not pass on information to anybody unless you wanted us to.

6. Do men experience Domestic violence?
Yes, men as well as women experience domestic violence. Some men find it harder to report it, some feel it’s a man's thing to stand up and take it, some feel unable to tell there friends or family.

7. Do you help men as well as women?
Yes, we help men. We offer them counselling the same as women. We also provide a one to one service if they just want to talk, and again, nothing goes further.

8. Is there an age limit on the people you help ?
We help people over the age of 16years. There are other organisations that can help younger people and we can provide information on request.

9. Does domestic violence happen to elder people?
Yes, domestic violence does happen to elder people, this can happen in their own home if they are being cared for by family for example. Many do not report it to police or anybody for the fear of nothing will happen or they feel it will make it worse. They can get abused by many people e.g. partner, friend, neighbour, paid workers, volunteer or people they are caring for.

10. Is there help for elder people if they report domestic violence?
Yes there is help and we can put people in touch with agencies who are able help.
