Hello Again!
Hello again to you all. Please find below a list of all of the new opportunities that have come in during November. As always, if you would like some more information regarding any of these opportunities (or anything else to do with volunteering), please get in touch. Urgently needed!
 
CLIC Sargent provides services to children and young people diagnosed with cancer and leukaemia. They also provide support for their families. They need lots of Christmas Wrap Volunteers for their fundraising event; Clic sargent will have a stand in the Castle Mall in Norwich to wrap presents for shoppers. They ask the general public to make a donation in return for them providing the service, paper, ribbons etc. Anyone willing to volunteer will be allowed to park free of charge in the
Mall for the time they are volunteering.

Riding for the Disabled has 10 riding groups across Norfolk in need of more volunteers. Volunteering with RDA is fun, rewarding and confidence building. Young or old they have a role for everyone, whether you want the opportunity to coach the next equestrian Paralympian or recognise the achievement of a young boy saying his very first words in 5 years to his pony – RDA has this volunteering experience.

Cancer Research UK has a space at the Castle Mall on Wednesday 15
th December, 9am-3pm (approx) to do a Christmas collection and giving out leaflets. Volunteers can do all day or do a couple of hours at a time it’s up to you!

Can you give time regularly to support a local charity or an individual in the community?
 
Chatterbox Norwich Talking Newspaper require Administration Assistant volunteers to prepare wallets for the dispatch of the week's recording, ensuring that there is one addressed to every listener. They also require Wallet Sorters to sort the returned wallets into alphabetical categories, extract the tapes/cassettes and any messages from the listener. A Team Leader/ Editor is required to be responsible for overseeing the production of the weekly audio news recording and is the contact for all the volunteers working that day. Volunteers are required for approx 2 hours 1 in every 4 Thursdays

Move on East supports the resettlement and re-integration of ex-offenders into the community specifically helping clients to over-come the obstacles they face in securing and maintaining employment. They have set up a brand new project and need Volunteer Mentors to meet with mentees regularly using a structured approach after receiving appropriate training, assisting the mentee to overcome obstacles they come across when securing employment and provide advice about available support services and how to best utilise them. Accredited Training is provided.

Norfolk LINk is looking for someone who ideally has experience of taking minutes at meetings and typing them up. The minute taker volunteer will attend bi-monthly meetings with the Central Norfolk Mental Health Locality Forum. The meetings last 2 hours and travel and parking expenses will be paid. This would suit a volunteer who is flexible and has an interest in the NHS and the Health Sector. There is a possibility in the future to help the Norfolk LINks service in other ways.

Self-Help Group Facilitator (female) is needed to help facilitate a self help support group for Surviving Together - a charity which supports women survivors of childhood sexual abuse once a month. Communication and listening skills and experience with groups is important.  Induction, training and mentoring from Hellesdon will be provided.

Norwich Day Services support people with learning disabilities to access local community services and to learn skills e.g. swimming, driving and micro enterprises e.g. art and a cafe. They require a female volunteer support worker to support a lady with physical and learning disabilities to go swimming, probably once a fortnight on Wednesday mornings. This will be part of an organised group with supervision and transport provided.

BBC Voices is a media workshop and production unit for film, music and radio.  They offer individuals, groups, schools and businesses in Norfolk free basic training in film, TV and radio and we work on a range of media projects alongside other groups and organisations in the county. The BBC Voices Centre is located in The Forum, Norwich along with the main BBC East studios and offices. Their workshop area offers film and radio recording and editing facilities along with a purpose built TV studio.  They are always keen to hear from anyone who might be interested in volunteering with them.  Related skills are nice to have but definitely not essential.   They are happy to train and develop your skills but in return – they would ideally like a regular commitment of at least one day a week and for a period of at least three months.  The next informal recruitment day is in January 2011.

Do you know your income from your expenditure? Then make use of the financial experience you have and support the work of the Alzheimer's Society in Norfolk. They require a Financial Admin Volunteer, tasks include book keeping duties and the financial processing of transactions to support our Finance Officer based in Norwich but covering the Norfolk locality. They also require Drivers in Norwich and Thetford; this role is essential to support people with dementia and their carers to attend groups/services/events/trips. Your involvement will ensure that those people who cannot make their own way to our services are supported with safe and reliable travel arrangements. This role is flexible but they hope volunteers will be able to offer a few hours each week and provide some continuity over a number of months. Fundraising Group Members are needed in Norwich and Thetford to join their passionate team and help them support even more people with dementia and their carers locally. Whether you want to help support an existing fundraising project, join the collection team, manage a project, organise an event with friends or know of local business's that could fundraise on our behalf, then get in contact with them and they will arrange an informal chat. They have other roles in North Norfolk and Great Yarmouth please contact the Volunteer Centre for further details.

Would you like to use your business skills to help a Pre School? If so, Little Swans Pre School is looking for a Chairman/Business Advisor to provide business advice, oversee the running of the group by Chairing the voluntary committee, monitor the group's financial position (alongside a Treasurer who provides the data), provide support and advice in areas such as marketing and advertising, chair meetings & delegate responsibilities and so forth

Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) is looking for people to volunteer as a Key Campaigner all across the county. Make a difference by taking actions to change national and local issues affecting blind and partially sighted people. Did you realise that by writing a letter, sending an e-mail or meeting a local politician you can change the world? By being a key campaigner with RNIB you can make a big difference without necessarily leaving your home. To find out how you can get involved please contact the volunteer centre.

Norfolk Foster Care Association is looking for a website designer; this is a flexible role from home, supporting a small charity set up their website. The volunteer is needed to design a website for the NFCA, maintain and update the website in its initial phase and to train/instruct NFCA members.

Norfolk Deaf Association runs mobile clinics around the County and a home visiting service for hard of hearing people to maintain their hearing aids. Hearing Support Volunteers offer practical support, signposting and advice to clients. The volunteers will retube hearing aids, exchange batteries and fault finding problems. This saves our clients having to travel to their local hospital and takes pressure off of the NHS Audiology Services. Volunteers are also able to offer support to other services which may benefit the client. They also offer a befriending service where volunteers visit deaf, hard of hearing and vulnerable clients who have become isolated. They will be recruiting in March and September. Next training dates are March 16th, 23rd, and 30th 2011.

Norfolk Learning Disability Service is seeking volunteers of all ages to share their skills and interests with people with disabilities. They would especially like to hear from people interested in horticulture, craft, drama, micro-enterprises, swimming, cookery, and outdoor activities. Every effort will be made to place Volunteer Supports in their preferred activity. The volunteers will be managed by our volunteer co-ordinators.

Cancer Research UK is having an Open Evening, this is an opportunity to find out more about the charity, how to get involved locally and meet likeminded people in your area. It is at 7pm Monday 11
